For our final release of 2012, we have what might be the single most inspiring and epic piece of music ever released on Kikapu. Wavespan and Nobuto Suda have joined forces to create a single song consisting of various instrumentations, field recordings and drones along with a long list of musical guests adding their own input to the piece, combining their particular elements into the greater whole. What emerges from a long gestation of recording and production is an incredibly original and...

Experimentations in sounds of shortwave. 0 dBm is a concept E.P. from Detroit producer Telegraphy (Richard Sudney). The concept being, combining in real time, audio of shortwave signals from which a vintage vacuum tube communications receiver is used as a back drop for Telegraphy's minimal dub'ed sound-scapes. This receiver, with it's etheric property's not found in today's solid state electronics, captures outer worldly tonalities and energies. Each track was recorded live directly to a audio...

You know WNY. Don’t pretend like you don’t. WNY has been a friend to Kikapu for nearly a decade, and has released some of our most highly-revered albums to date. You may remember him from past releases under different aliases such as Spark and Winnie the Shit. Ring a bell? That’s right…I knew you would remember. For his latest EP release, WNY continues down his path of hardware and synth-driven electronics, skittering along the edge of true acid jams at times. Not that we’d complain...

“Arriving At Night In Ithaca” chronicles an imaginary nocturnal sea journey – imagine you are the sailor Ulysses, coming home after many years of travel. Wind instruments such as the bottle and flute play predominant roles in the composition, and no synthesizers were used, to emphasize its timeless qualities. “Paiyatuma” is a wind instrument project of Thomas Park and Shane Morris. The duo incorporate a variety of wind instruments including trombone, flute, and found sounds such as...

We've got another great mix here from Chiang Mai for your listening pleasure. While his last mix was all techno, this one is very much focused on hip-hop, footwork, juke, and just general bass music. Quite amazing really, the mix of styles in this, and it is a hell of a lot of fun too. Again, no tracklist here, but we recognize some Waka Flocka Flame, Jonwayne, Philip D. Kick, Flying Lotus and De La Soul. Download, listen, repeat, enjoy.

"The Pipers Of Pluto" is, in part, a collaboration. The longest tracks, the second and last, were created organically from long source sounds supplied by guitarist/musician Dan Minoza. The first track is a short acoustic piece by mystified. Other tracks are also by mystified - one uses only a kazoo as a basis, while the other use a simple nose flute as its only source. Don't let the use of kazoo and nose flute deter you! "Pipers" presents an intense, dark, shifting...

In the interests of time and space, we will let Val Murah describe his latest project, and the most recent Kikapu release, for us: "Strange this will be an intro for a lot of people, because it's more of a farewell to a personal era. Long story short, I put out Music 4 Lemons in the beginning of 2009 and I felt like I was completely done with electronic music at that point. I'd gone through a lot of time and scrapped albums and in the end it still felt hugely disappointing for me. My...

The sounds of Roto Visage seep into the celluloid and flicker with the moving images of what has been argued as being the first surrealist film, Antonin Artaud and Germaine Dulac's La coquille et le clergyman (The Seashell and the Clergyman, 1928). Implementing a phantasmagorical approach towards construction, a boundless number of sound sources and arrangement techniques were fused together to create this soundtrack. Chiang Mai created this amazing mix of techno for us, keeping it often minimal and dark. The only info provided for this mix is that "tracklists are for chumps," but on listening to the mix, we know that things start and end bright with some WNY tracks, but it gets dark and bass-heavy in the middle...there is some Andy Stott in there, to give it some perspective. It really is a great slice of techno and should immediately be downloaded and placed on repeat.

The debut release of off land is a marvelous collection of subdued, melancholic ambience and electronics. Things slowly start off with minimal drones, followed by shuffling beats and anomalous guitar loops, interspersed with vocal snippets. Sieve is back again with another incredible EP of dark moods and thoughts. 'Vacuum-Assisted' focuses a bit more on the overall texture of each track compared to the beat-heavy electronics of his previous Kikapu release, 'wave/particle.' But don't be fooled, there are still plenty of forceful, brooding rhythms scattered throughout this release, all with a foreboding, inexhaustible feeling to them. Yet this release cuts even deeper into your psyche as you listen, pushing you to the edge.

This excellent EP's source materials are samples that Sieve originally recorded in 1997, possibly from a Casio toy keyboard, that have been re-recorded and bastardized many times over the years and have finally come to fruition in these tracks. Our largest and most ambitious release to date, "Wein, Weib und Gesang" is a focus on experimental and ambient-styled electronics, with tracks from a group of some of the most remarkable musicians around. Some of these faces are new to Kikapu, while some have previously released here a number of times. The title is an old German saying that is loosely translated as "wine, women and songs...all you need to be happy in life." Seeing as this release clocks in at nearly five...

Nophi Records frontman r_garcia returns to Kikapu with another gorgeously fun EP of chiptune bleeps, beautiful melodies, and remarkable riddims. One might call this a pop-centric view of the IDM sound, whatever that may be. In essence though, it's just a wonderfully enjoyable collection of tracks that will get your booty shaking and have you grinning ear to ear.

litmus0001 is Jonathan Ewald, a multi- instrumentalist and gifted producer from the U.S. who creates ambient soundscapes by way of live instrumentation through a series of effects and loops. While the six string bass is his focus, his use of guitar, synth, and programmed rhythms is exemplary and helps add to the depth of his improvisations. His music has been described as "downtempo neo-psychedelic organo-electronic post-/avant-/anti-rock," and this portrayal barely scratches the...

Karaoke Tundra is Victor Tverdochlebov, a musician based in Slovakia, who focuses on a melding of technologies between computerized digitalics and cut-up found sounds. His music is akin to a multitude of microsound artists, as these songs roll along with a smattering of clicks, cuts, beeps, and glitches. But what really separates Karaoke Tundra apart from the rest of the crowd is his innate ability to get your body moving with the funk and hip-hop vibe he creates with all of his available sound...

We're taking a big leap forward today into a slightly new and different realm of sound for Kikapu, with the debut release from Nashville's favorite legolomaniacs space plans. The band consists of three professional studio-geeks and knob-twiddlers, those being Kyleen King, Dave Jones, and Brion Bergstrom; and all three of them basically handle all of the different elements herein, whether they be guitar, bass, drums, synths, or vocals. To be honest, this EP is just a straight-up release of...

It is always an exciting situation when an artist intentionally decides to take a slight detour from what we would think of as their usual sound, or 'voice' if you will. While usually genuine in it's approach, this experimentation in styles can often lead to a compromised product that is not up to their previous standards. Sweden's vägskäl rises above these inconsistent attempts at broadening one's inventiveness with this new four-track EP of uptempo electro-pop. Previously known for his...

This rather elaborate EP from autistici rolls just over the half-hour mark, and could really be considered to be one massive piece of the avant-garde. A convincing mix of dark ambient, glitch, drone, and experimentalism that would be impossible to pigeonhole into any single genre, other than the one autistici has created for himself. Perfect for some intense headphone listening, late nights, and the like; we're blown away from these new pieces and hope that you enjoy them just as much as we do.

Taking the less is more approach, Evan Valentine's debut Kikapu release is eight tracks, some of them collaborative, of beautiful melodic IDM with a twist of some video game-ish melodies and incredibly complex percussion patterns. While most tracks hover around the two-minute mark, Mr. Valentine does a wonderful job of making his point with the sounds available to him, and not over-packing them with too many layers.
